About a Sacrament

The Sacrament of Matrimony based on the Code of Canon Law (Canon 1055), "The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring." 

Through this Sacrament, a man and a woman are publicly joined as husband and wife. They enter into a new relationship with each other, God, and the Church. Since Marriage is not viewed as a legal contract, there are no vows in the Sacrament. According to teachings, Marriage is not simply a social institution, it is an eternal vocation of the kingdom. A husband and a wife are called by the Holy Spirit not only to live together, but also to share their Christian life together.

You must contact a parish priest at least six months before the possible wedding date due to the preparation required for sacramental marriages. It is strongly recommended that you book the church prior to booking a reception venue.

Marriage Preparation

  1. St. Constantine requires six months of marriage preparation. Please contact your parish priest.
  2. Each marrying couple is required to attend a marriage preparation conference that will be scheduled after the wedding registration
  3. Most couples will be asked to focus on preparation for the premarital life. The goal is to help engaged couples learn more about themselves and their relationship.
  4. St. Constantine require couples to attend our Preparing Together classes. This method of fertility respects the integrity of your marriage and the dignity of the spouses.
  5. The preparing priest or deacon can assist you in preparing the liturgy, readings, music, and other elements for your wedding.

Planning the Wedding

  1. Marriage Guidelines: Please contact the office for an updated copy of our marriage guidelines.
  2. Music Selection: All matters related to wedding music (selection, musicians, cantors, etc.) must be coordinated and approved by the Director of Music. Wedding music must be sacred music and comply with norms established by the parish.
  3. Altar Flowers and Decorations: Please coordinate the decorative designs with church staff. The floral arrangements in the sanctuary may needs to be approved by the church staff. Bridal couples who wish to make a contribution to the parish to help cover the cost of these arrangements may recommend their preference for colors and types of flowers to be included in the arrangements.  These requests should be made  at least two months prior to the date of the wedding.
  4. Photography: Photographers should respect the sacred nature of the the ceremony and the church. During the ceremony the photographer may not use flash if possible, block the congregation or enter the sanctuary.
  5. City Parking: I extra parking needed the guests can park on the city street. We will post reserved parking signs outside the church for your wedding to reserve the front parking spaces for wedding vehicles. For special parking permits call 612-379-2394.
